Lääkemuodoilla refers to various forms in which medicinal substances are prepared for administration to patients. The choice of lääkemuoto depends on factors such as the drug's properties, the intended route of administration, the desired speed of onset and duration of action, and patient convenience.

Common lääkemuotoilla include solid forms like tablets, capsules, powders, and granules. Tablets are a widely used dosage form, often compressed from powdered or granulated active ingredients and excipients. Capsules consist of a soluble outer shell, usually gelatin, enclosing a powdered or liquid drug. Powders can be administered orally, inhaled, or applied topically. Granules are small aggregates of powder particles that may be swallowed directly, mixed with food or liquids, or used in effervescent formulations.

Liquid lääkemuotoilla encompass solutions, suspensions, emulsions, and syrups. Solutions are homogeneous mixtures where the drug is dissolved in a solvent, suitable for oral, parenteral, or topical use. Suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures containing finely dispersed solid drug particles in a liquid medium, requiring shaking before administration. Emulsions are mixtures of two immiscible liquids, such as oil and water, stabilized by an emulsifying agent. Syrups are concentrated aqueous solutions of sugar or sugar substitutes, often used to mask the taste of bitter drugs.

Semi-solid lääkemuotoilla include ointments, creams, gels, and suppositories. Ointments are greasy preparations applied to the skin for localized effects, forming an occlusive layer. Creams are semi-solid emulsions, typically less greasy than ointments, and are absorbed more readily. Gels are semi-solid systems where a liquid phase is dispersed within a three-dimensional network. Suppositories are solid dosage forms inserted into body orifices, such as the rectum, vagina, or urethra, where they melt or dissolve to release the medication.

In addition to these, other lääkemuotoilla exist, such as inhalations for respiratory delivery, transdermal patches for sustained drug release through the skin, and parenteral formulations (injections) for rapid systemic absorption. Each lääkemuoto is designed to optimize drug delivery and therapeutic efficacy.
