Loodusvaimud are nature spirits in Estonian folklore. They are imagined as intelligent beings tied to specific places in the natural world, such as forests, rivers, rocks, and weather phenomena. In traditional belief they can influence the landscape and its cycles, and they are often thought to respond to human behavior with reciprocity—rewards for respect and harm for neglect or disrespect.

The word is formed from loodus, meaning nature, and vaim, meaning spirit. The plural form loodusvaimud is used in folklore texts and contemporary discussions to refer to these beings collectively. Loodusvaimud belong to an animistic worldview that was widespread in pre-Christian Estonia, where the natural world was perceived as inhabited by sentient forces rather than as a set of inert resources.

In folklore and culture, loodusvaimud are depicted as guardians or personified forces of places. They may be benevolent, granting favorable conditions or protection, or unpredictable, causing misfortune if a people or community acts rashly or irreverently. Stories often use these spirits to convey moral lessons about respect for nature, seasonal rhythms, and the welfare of communities linked to land and water.
