When driven by a high-temperature heat source, the cycle functions as a thermochemical energy storage system; when coupled with CO2 capture, it contributes to emissions mitigation.

Operating conditions for limepowered systems typically involve calcination at high temperatures, often around 900–1000°C, achievable with concentrated solar heat or industrial waste heat.
