Liigsöömishoogu, a Finnish term, translates to binge eating. It refers to episodes of consuming a significantly larger amount of food than normal in a discrete period of time, accompanied by a sense of lack of control during the eating episode. This behavior is often associated with eating much more rapidly than usual, eating until feeling uncomfortably full, eating large amounts of food when not feeling physically hungry, and eating alone due to feeling embarrassed by the amount of food consumed. Following the binge, individuals often experience feelings of disgust, depression, or guilt.
