Ligamentsom is a term used in speculative biology to describe a proposed molecular element associated with ligament tissue. In hypothetical models, a ligamentsom would form a filamentous protein complex that links collagen fibers within the ligament matrix and interfaces with mechanosensitive signaling pathways. The term combines ligaments with the suffix som, indicating a body-like subunit.

In these speculative accounts, ligamentsoms would localize near sites of high mechanical load, especially at entheses where ligaments attach to bone, and would assemble from small oligomeric units that bind to collagen I and extracellular matrix components such as decorin and fibronectin. A ligamentsom lattice could help align fibers, modulate crosslinking, and translate mechanical strain into cellular signals via focal adhesions and downstream pathways.

There is currently no peer-reviewed evidence for ligamentsoms; the concept appears mainly in speculative discussions, model-building exercises, or fiction. Consequently, ligamentsom is not described in standard anatomy or connective tissue literature.
