Lagunemist is a localized fog phenomenon associated with coastal lagoons and estuaries. It manifests as a veil of mist that reduces visibility over and near the water surface, sometimes extending inland along the lagoon basin. Lagunemist arises when moist, relatively warm air moves over cooler lagoon waters, promoting condensation in a shallow atmospheric layer. The effect is enhanced by light or calm winds, clear skies after sunset, and radiative cooling of the water surface overnight.
