Labralskader is the Danish term for injuries to the labrum, the fibrocartilaginous rim that surrounds the shoulder socket (glenoid) and the hip socket (acetabulum). In English-language medical terminology, these injuries are commonly called labral tears or labral injuries. The labrum helps stabilize the joint and maintain a seal that aids fluid movement within the joint; tears can compromise stability and mechanics, leading to pain and mechanical symptoms.

Causes of labral injuries include acute trauma such as shoulder dislocations or falls that force the joint beyond its normal range, repetitive overhead activities (as seen in throwing sports), and degenerative changes with aging. In the shoulder, a range of lesions can occur, including Bankart lesions associated with dislocations and SLAP lesions at the superior labrum. In the hip, labral tears often accompany femoroacetabular impingement, which may involve CAM or pincer deformities. Symptoms commonly include deep joint pain, especially with activity, reduced range of motion, and catching, popping, or a feeling of instability.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination complemented by imaging. Special clinical tests for shoulder and hip instability may be used, and magnetic resonance imaging, often with an arthrogram, is commonly employed to visualize the labrum and adjacent structures. Treatment can be non-surgical (rest, activity modification, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy focused on stabilizing the joint) or surgical. Surgical options include arthroscopic labral repair or debridement, and, in the hip, procedures addressing associated impingement. Prognosis varies with tear type, joint involvement, and response to rehabilitation. Prevention emphasizes proper conditioning and technique to reduce repetitive strain and joint instability.
