Käynnistymisessä refers to the process of starting up or booting a computer or other electronic device. It encompasses the sequence of events that occur from the moment power is applied until the operating system is fully loaded and ready for user interaction. This process typically involves several stages.

Initially, the device performs a Power-On Self-Test (POST). This is a diagnostic check where the system's hardware components, such as the CPU, RAM, and graphics card, are verified to ensure they are functioning correctly. If any critical errors are detected during POST, the system may halt and display an error message or emit beep codes to indicate the problem.

Following a successful POST, the system's firmware, often the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), takes control. This firmware is responsible for initializing hardware and locating the boot device, which is usually a hard drive, SSD, or USB drive containing the operating system.

Once the boot device is identified, the firmware loads the bootloader into memory. The bootloader is a small program that is specifically designed to load the operating system kernel. The kernel is the core of the operating system and is responsible for managing the system's resources.

After the kernel is loaded, it begins to initialize various system services and drivers. This stage involves setting up the environment for the operating system to run, including loading necessary modules and preparing for user input. Finally, the graphical user interface (GUI) or command-line interface (CLI) is presented, signifying that the käynnistymisessä process is complete and the device is ready for use.
