Kupariputket (Finnish for copper pipes) are copper pipes used primarily in plumbing and heating systems. Copper pipes are valued for their durability, malleability, and corrosion resistance in most drinking-water environments. They conduct heat efficiently and can be joined by soldering, brazing, or mechanical fittings, making them suitable for both hot and cold water distribution as well as central heating.

Copper pipes are commonly categorized by wall thickness as K, L, and M, with K being the thickest and most robust. In metric sizing, they are often labeled by outside diameter (for example 15, 22, or 28 mm) and corresponding wall thickness. In refrigerant and some specialty uses, other copper pipe grades and fittings exist. Proper installation requires compatible fittings and, in many jurisdictions, licensed technicians. Lead-free solder or brazing alloys are used to ensure potable-water safety.

Advantages include long service life, resistance to scale and corrosion in typical domestic water, and the ability to run hot and cold water with a relatively low expansion risk. Drawbacks include higher cost compared with plastic piping, potential damage from freezing if not adequately insulated, and sensitivity to certain water chemistries that can cause pinhole leaks in aggressive or acidic water. Exterior copper may oxidize to a green patina over time.

Common applications are residential and commercial water supply lines, steam and hot-water heating systems, and some refrigeration lines. Copper pipes require careful handling to avoid kinks, and connections should be pressure-tested before use.
