Kuormituskomponentteihin (engl. load components) are specialized subsystems or modules designed to generate controlled test loads for performance evaluation of computing infrastructures, networks, or applications. They simulate user behavior or data traffic, allowing engineers to measure system response times, throughput, and resource utilisation under predictable and repeatable conditions.

Design principles of load components typically include: modularity, scalability, and configurability. Modularity ensures that each component can emulate a distinct type of workload such as CPU‑bound, I/O‑bound, or mixed workloads. Scalability permits the simulation of hundreds or thousands of virtual users by replicating component instances across multiple hosts. Configurability allows fine‑tuning of parameters such as transaction mix, think time, concurrency levels, and data volume, which mimic real operational scenarios.

Common types of load components include database generators, network traffic starters, web application stressors, and custom script engines. For example, a database generator might replay recorded SQL queries with variable parameters to test a transactional system, while a network traffic starter could produce UDP or TCP packet streams to exercise firewalls or routers.

In practice, load components are integrated into automated test harnesses. Test scripts trigger them according to test plans, and metrics from monitoring tools are captured for analysis. The resulting performance data guides capacity planning, bottleneck identification, and optimisation of systems.

Many open‑source and commercial solutions implement load components, such as Apache JMeter’s sampler modules, Gatling’s scenario DSL, and commercial tools like LoadRunner’s Virtual User Generator. Standardised benchmarking frameworks often build upon these components to provide comparable performance results across vendors.
