Krycie, in Polish, denotes the roof covering—the layer or system of materials applied to the top of a building to protect it from weather. The term can refer to the material itself or the work of applying it, i.e., roofing.

Common roofing materials include ceramic or cement roof tiles (dachówka ceramiczna, dachówka cementowa), metal roofing (blacha stalowa, blacha tytanowo-cynkowa), asphalt shingles (papa), and wooden shingles (gont). Less common are slate (łupki) and fibre cement sheets (eternit). Synthetic membranes and bituminous membranes are also used on flat or low-pitched roofs. Roof coverings differ in weight, durability, fire resistance, weather resistance, and aesthetics.

The installation process requires a proper substructure, ventilation, drainage, and waterproofing. The choice of krycie depends on climate, roof pitch, architectural style, and budget. Durable coverings such as tiles or metal sheets require qualified installation and periodic inspection. Maintenance and replacement intervals vary: ceramic and cement tiles can last 50 years or more; metal coverings often 40–70 years; bituminous coverings 15–30 years. Regular inspections, replacement of damaged elements, and cleaning of gutters extend service life.

In construction practice, krycie is a key element of the roof structure and building envelope. It is addressed in building codes and professional standards in relation to insulation, waterproofing, and fire safety.
