Installation requires a slight slope toward the downspout to encourage drainage and prevent standing water. Maintenance involves regular debris removal, flushing with water to check for clogs, and inspecting for leaks, loose fasteners, or sagging sections. Common problems include clogging from leaves and needles, ice damming in cold climates, and leaks at seams or joints. Repairs may involve resealing joints, replacing damaged sections, or adjusting hangers.

Gutters vary in size and capacity to match roof area and rainfall. Some systems are designed for rainwater harvesting or integration with drainage to yard or garden. In regions with heavy precipitation or complex rooflines, professional installation or inspection is often recommended.
