Kovajuotos, also known as hard soldering or brazing, is a metal-joining process. It involves heating base metals and a filler material to a temperature above 450 degrees Celsius (842 degrees Fahrenheit). The filler material melts and flows into the joint by capillary action, and upon cooling, it forms a strong bond between the base metals. The base metals themselves do not melt during this process.

This method is distinct from soft soldering, which uses a lower melting point filler metal (typically tin-based alloys) and is generally not as strong. Kovajuotos can be used to join a wide variety of metals, including ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, and is particularly useful for joining dissimilar metals. Common filler metals include copper, brass, silver, and aluminum alloys.

The process requires careful cleaning of the surfaces to be joined and the use of a flux. The flux helps to remove oxides and prevent further oxidation during heating, ensuring proper wetting and flow of the filler metal. Heat can be applied through various methods, such as a torch (oxy-acetylene, propane, MAPP gas), induction heating, furnace brazing, or resistance heating.

Kovajuotos is valued for its ability to create strong, leak-tight joints that can withstand significant stress and temperature variations. It is commonly employed in industries such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, aerospace, and automotive manufacturing for applications ranging from piping and heat exchangers to structural components.
