koszorúérCTA refers to the coronary arteries, which are blood vessels responsible for supplying oxygenated blood to the heart muscle. These arteries originate from the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body. The coronary arteries then branch out, forming a network that covers the surface of the heart.

There are two main coronary arteries: the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery. The left main coronary artery quickly divides into two major branches: the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery. These arteries, along with the right coronary artery, supply blood to different regions of the heart. Blockages or narrowing of these arteries, often due to atherosclerosis (plaque buildup), can lead to reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. This condition is known as coronary artery disease (CAD).

Symptoms of CAD can include chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, and fatigue. In severe cases, a complete blockage can cause a heart attack (myocardial infarction), a life-threatening event where heart muscle tissue dies due to lack of oxygen. Diagnosis of coronary artery disease often involves medical history, physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), stress tests, and imaging techniques such as coronary angiography. Treatment options may include lifestyle changes, medications, angioplasty with stenting, or coronary artery bypass surgery.
