A kontaktpind, or contact pin, is a cylindrical metal element used as the male component in electrical connectors. Its purpose is to mate with a corresponding female contact (receptacle or socket) to establish a conductive path for electrical signals or power between two devices or assemblies. Contact pins are commonly found in a wide range of connectors, including computer interfaces, industrial equipment, automotive systems, and consumer electronics.

Most kontaktpinde are designed from conductive copper alloys for high electrical conductivity, with surface treatments such as nickel, tin, or gold plating to reduce wear and corrosion. The dimensions and tolerances vary by connector family, but pins are typically manufactured to precise diameters, lengths, and cross-sections to ensure reliable mating and repeatable contact pressure over many cycles.

Variations of contact pins include straight pins used in through-hole or surface-mount PCB connectors, as well as pins arranged in multi-pin arrays for multi-contact connections. In addition, spring-loaded variants, often called pogo pins, are used in test fixtures and wireless charging assemblies where reliable contact with moving or temporary targets is required. Some pins are hollow or hollow-stepped to accommodate solder tails or insulation sleeves, depending on the application.

Applications of kontaktpind span consumer electronics, automotive and industrial connectors, data and communications interfaces, and test equipment. The design and materials are chosen to balance electrical performance, mechanical durability, and resistance to wear, corrosion, and environmental exposure.
