A tomesode, on the other hand, is a formal kimono worn by married women.

The way a kimono is worn and the accessories chosen are also significant. The obi, for example, can be tied in various intricate knots, each with its own meaning or aesthetic. Footwear such as zori or geta are traditionally worn with kimono. The art of wearing a kimono correctly, known as kitsuke, involves careful dressing and attention to detail. Despite the prevalence of Western clothing in modern Japan, the kimono continues to be a cherished symbol of Japanese culture and tradition.
