Kehystystä is a Finnish term derived from kehys, meaning frame. In Finnish usage, the noun kehystys denotes the act or process of framing, as well as the frame itself. The term is used in several domains, including visual arts, architecture and design, and media studies to describe both tangible framing of objects and metaphorical framing of information or events.

In art and museum contexts kehystys refers to mounting and framing works of art or photographs. A typical process includes selecting a moulding, cutting and joining corners, inserting a mat, fitting glass or acrylic, securing a backing, adding a dust cover, and attaching hanging hardware. Materials such as acid-free mats and UV-protective glazing are chosen to protect the work and influence presentation.

In media studies and public discourse, kehystys describes how information is presented within a particular frame to shape interpretation. Framing involves selecting which aspects of a problem are emphasized, defining causes or responsibilities, and suggesting norms, solutions or moral evaluations. Different frames can steer audience perception, affect policy support, and influence public dialogue, making framing a central concept in journalism, advertising and political communication.
