Jodoformi, also known as iodoform, is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHI₃. It is a pale yellow, crystalline solid with a distinctive, unpleasant odor often described as similar to that of antiseptic solutions. Iodoform was historically significant in medicine due to its antiseptic properties, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The compound was first synthesized in 1870 by the French chemist Jean-Baptiste Dumas and his student, Charles-Adolphe Wurtz. Iodoform is produced through the reaction of iodine with acetone or ethanol in the presence of a base, such as sodium hydroxide. This reaction generates a characteristic yellow precipitate, which is the iodoform itself. The formation of iodoform is often used as a qualitative test for the presence of methyl ketones or compounds that can be oxidized to methyl ketones, such as ethanol.
