Jamning is a term that can refer to two distinct activities depending on the context. Jamning sessions are common in jazz, blues, funk, and rock cultures, emphasizing spontaneity, listening, and group dynamics over fixed arrangements. They may take place in rehearsal spaces, clubs, or informal gatherings, and typically have no predetermined structure or duration. Musicians usually rotate leadership, with players contributing ideas, responding to others, and exploring musical ideas in real time.

In telecommunications and signal processing, jamning (more commonly written as jamming) refers to deliberate interference with radio communications or navigation signals. The aim is to degrade reception and disrupt legitimate use of the spectrum. Approaches vary in their technical characteristics and detectability, and include broad-spectrum noise and other signaling methods. Jamming is illegal in many jurisdictions when used to impede essential services such as emergency communications or critical infrastructure, and it raises ethical and regulatory concerns. Regulatory bodies and law enforcement employ monitoring, enforcement actions, and technical countermeasures to mitigate and deter jamming activities.
