Impulsevaste is a speculative term used in discussions of dynamic material response to impulsive loading. It denotes a hypothetical regime in which an abrupt force applied to a medium triggers not only a prompt stress wave but also a sustained, spatially extended redistribution of energy that persists as a long‑lived deformation, termed the vaste. The name blends impulse, referring to a short-duration input, with a root suggesting breadth or extent.

In proposed models, the impulse excites both fast and slow relaxation modes. The fast component produces the initial deformation, while the slow component stores energy and distributes it over a broad region, creating a lasting tail that decays much more slowly than ordinary viscoelastic responses.

The concept remains speculative and is not part of established physics. There is no widely accepted experimental evidence for impulsevaste, and it is mainly discussed in thought experiments, theoretical exercises, or fictional contexts to illustrate extreme energy transfer phenomena.
