Ilmiantajat are individuals who disclose information about suspected illegal or unethical activities within an organization, or to public authorities, media, or other watchdog bodies. The term is commonly used in Finnish to refer to whistleblowers. They may report concerns such as fraud, safety violations, corruption, environmental harm, or violations of laws and regulations.

Often, ilmiantajat act in situations where normal internal controls fail or are insufficient. They may provide documents, testimony, or other evidence to support their claims. The act of reporting is typically motivated by concerns for legality, public safety, or ethical integrity rather than personal gain.

Legal frameworks around ilmiantajat aim to protect them from retaliation and to encourage reporting.
