Hysteroskoopiale refers to a medical procedure known as hysteroscopy. It is a diagnostic and sometimes therapeutic technique that allows a doctor to visualize the inside of the uterus. During a hysteroscopy, a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope is inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity. The hysteroscope contains a camera that transmits images to a video monitor, enabling the healthcare provider to examine the uterine lining, or endometrium, and the openings of the fallopian tubes.

This procedure is commonly used to investigate causes of abnormal uterine bleeding, such as heavy periods, irregular bleeding, or bleeding after menopause. It can also help diagnose conditions like uterine fibroids, polyps, adhesions (scar tissue), and congenital uterine abnormalities. Furthermore, hysteroscopy can be used to take biopsies of the uterine lining for further examination or to remove small growths like polyps and fibroids, or to sever adhesions, making it a therapeutic tool as well. The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting, although sometimes it may be done in conjunction with other gynecological surgeries. The recovery time is generally short, with most women able to resume normal activities within a day or two.
