Hydroksirassvahat is Finnish for hydroxy fatty acids, a class of fatty acids that contain one or more hydroxyl (-OH) groups attached to their hydrocarbon chain. They are carboxylic acids with additional functional groups, which increases their polarity and reactivity compared with standard fatty acids.

Occurrence and examples: Hydroxy fatty acids occur naturally in certain plant and animal oils. The best-known example is ricinoleic acid, the principal component of castor oil, which is 12-hydroxy-9-octadecenoic acid.
