Hröfn is a genus of deep-sea anglerfish belonging to the family Himantolophidae. These fish are characterized by their globular bodies, large mouths filled with sharp teeth, and a bioluminescent lure extending from the head of the female. The males are significantly smaller and parasitic, attaching themselves to the females.

The most well-known species within the genus is Hröfn gravidicornis, commonly known as the coiled or hooked angelfish. This species is found in temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They inhabit depths ranging from 500 to 2,000 meters, where they are predators of smaller fish and crustaceans. The lure, or esca, of the female is used to attract prey in the dark abyssal environment.

Reproduction in Hröfn species involves the tiny male latching onto the much larger female. Over time, the male's body fuses with the female's, providing sperm in exchange for nutrients. This sexual dimorphism is a common trait among deep-sea anglerfish. The genus Hröfn contains only a few described species, and much remains unknown about their life cycles and behavior due to their elusive nature and deep-sea habitat. Their discovery and study are challenging, contributing to their enigmatic reputation in marine biology.
