Hoefpikkel is a hand tool used in equine hoof care. The Dutch term refers to a small implement designed to clean dirt, mud and stones from a horse's hoof and to inspect the sole and frog for signs of injury or disease. It is standard equipment for horse owners, grooms and professional farriers.

A typical hoefpikkel consists of a handle (often wood, plastic or rubber) and a short, rigid pick made of metal or hard plastic. The pick is usually curved or angled to reach between the hoof wall and the frog. Some versions include a second end with a brush to sweep debris away. Variants differ in length and stiffness.

Use: with the horse calm and restrained, lift the hoof and support it. Gently insert the pick at the edge of the sole and work between the hoof wall and frog to remove mud, manure and stones. Avoid prying or forcing; if soil is packed, repeat with light pressure. After cleaning, inspect the hoof for cracks, punctures, thrush or other health issues.

Maintenance and safety: clean the tool after use, rinse and dry to prevent rust, and occasionally oil metal parts. For hygiene, disinfect when used on multiple horses. Do not use the tool to trim or force out objects; use care to avoid injury to the sensitive structures inside the hoof.
