Histogrammides is a proposed family of fossil arthropods named for the histogram-like arrangement of dorsal plates described in the group’s diagnostic features. The concept appears in taxonomic discussions as a potential clade, but its status remains unsettled and it is not universally accepted as a distinct lineage.

Placement within Arthropoda is debated. Some researchers treat histogrammides as a valid family within a broader group of early crustaceomorphs, while others consider it a form taxon arising from convergent patterns of body armor rather than a true evolutionary lineage. The fragmentary nature of the available specimens makes robust diagnosis difficult.

Morphologically, histogrammides is described as having a rigid, segmented carapace with alternating broad and narrow lateral plates that create a stepped, histogram-like façade. The pattern is complemented by a midline keel and sparse ornamentation on the dorsal shield. Soft-tissue features are rarely preserved, limiting functional interpretations.

Fossils attributed to histogrammides come from marine sedimentary rocks of temperate regions and are typically found in relatively low-energy, shallow-water deposits. Based on the exoskeletal features, paleontologists infer a benthic lifestyle, possibly detritivorous or filter-feeding, though direct evidence is scant.

Because material is limited, there is no consensus on monophyly or internal relationships within histogrammides. The taxon's status illustrates broader challenges in arthropod paleontology, where plate-patterning alone can lead to ambiguous classifications and competing systematic schemes.
