Hetsätningsstörning, also known as binge eating disorder (BED), is a serious eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food in a discrete period of time, accompanied by a sense of loss of control. These episodes typically occur at least once a week for at least three months. During an episode, individuals with BED consume food much more rapidly than normal, eat until uncomfortably full, eat large amounts when not feeling physically hungry, and often eat alone due to embarrassment about how much they are eating. They may also feel disgusted with themselves, depressed, or very guilty afterward.
