Havenoperaties, or port operations, refer to the range of activities that take place in a seaport to move ships, cargo and people efficiently and safely. Quay side operations cover berth planning, pilotage, tug assistance, and mooring to bring vessels safely to the dock. Cargo handling includes unloading and loading with cranes, conveyors and other handling equipment, as well as containerization, palletization and bulk or liquid cargo management. Yard operations focus on container storage, stacking, yard trucks and gate processes that control inbound and outbound movements. Intermodal connections, such as rail, road and barge, enable the transfer of cargo between the port and its hinterland.
