Harborgate is a coastal town and harbor district in the fictional Northshore region, located at the mouth of the River Lorne along the eastern coast of the Great Sea. It serves as a maritime hub with a working fishing fleet, a commercial port, a marina, and a promenade linking the historic harbor district to newer wards. The town’s population is about 12,000.

The harbor is protected by two stone breakwaters and a natural headland. Notable landmarks include Harborgate Lighthouse (built 1852), the Old Wharf, Pelican Market, and the Gatehouse Quarter, a cluster of warehouses now housing galleries and cafes. Beacon Park hosts a small naval museum.

Harborgate originated as a 12th-century fishing village and grew into a regional port in the medieval period. It expanded with trade routes and shipbuilding in the 16th–18th centuries and suffered a major fire in 1789, after which the harbor was rebuilt with stone piers. In the 20th century, shipyards declined and tourism and seafood processing rose.

The economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, boatbuilding, and tourism. The annual Maritime Festival features seafood tastings, boat tours, and folk performances. The Harborgate Maritime Museum preserves local seafaring heritage.

Harborgate is governed by a town council within the Northshore regional framework. It is connected by Route A12, a regional ferry service to neighboring towns, and a nearby airport serves the region. Waterfront paths and bicycle lanes are common, contributing to the town’s pedestrian-friendly character.
