For instance, alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss by attacking the hair follicles. Similarly, trichotillomania is a psychological condition where individuals pull out their hair, often leading to hair loss.

Advances in this area have led to the development of treatments for hair loss and hair-related conditions, such as minoxidil and finasteride, which are commonly used to stimulate hair growth.
