Guiarlo is a small municipality located in the southeastern part of the Italian region of Liguria, within the administrative boundaries of the Province of Savona. It covers an area of approximately 12.3 square kilometres and sits at an elevation of 240 metres above sea level. The commune is situated roughly 15 kilometres west of the city of Savona and about 55 kilometres south of the regional capital, Genoa. Its geographical coordinates are approximately 44°47′N latitude and 8°22′E longitude.

The first recorded mention of Guiarlo appears in medieval archives dating back to the 13th century, when it was listed as a minor feudal holding under the rule of the Visconti family. Over the centuries, the population remained relatively small, with pastoral and agricultural activities providing the primary livelihood for its residents. The 19th century saw a modest increase in settlement, partly due to the construction of a regional road that improved connectivity with larger economic centres.

According to the most recent census conducted in 2021, Guiarlo had an approximate population of 1,140 inhabitants. The demographic profile is characterised by a mix of families with longstanding ties to the area and a small number of recent migrants attracted by rural tourism opportunities. The local economy is dominated by small-scale farming, artisanal production of olive oil and cheese, and a niche sector of agrotourism. In addition, local craftsmen continue to maintain traditions of slate and terracotta tile manufacturing.

Culturally, the town celebrates an annual patron saint festival in late June, featuring religious processions, local cuisine, and folk music. The parish church of San Lorenzo, dating to the 17th century, serves as a key historical landmark.
