Geeing refers to the act of using a motor vehicle's gears to control its speed. This typically involves shifting between different gear ratios to optimize performance and efficiency. In vehicles with manual transmissions, the driver manually selects gears using a gear lever and a clutch pedal. Automatic transmissions, on the other hand, shift gears automatically based on factors like vehicle speed and engine load.

The purpose of "geeing" is to manage the power and torque delivered by the engine to the wheels. Lower gears provide more torque, allowing for quicker acceleration from a standstill or for climbing steep inclines. Higher gears allow the engine to operate at lower revolutions per minute (RPM) at higher speeds, which generally improves fuel economy and reduces engine noise. Downshifting, or moving to a lower gear, can be used to slow the vehicle down, especially when descending hills, providing engine braking and reducing wear on the service brakes.
