Fôrmiljø is the set of conditions surrounding the production, storage, handling and presentation of feed for animals. It includes housing and feeding systems, feed storage areas, sanitation, and management practices that affect how animals access and consume feed.

Key components include feeder design and placement; feed quality and storage conditions; hygiene and cleaning schedules; climate control (temperature, humidity, ventilation); lighting and noise; stocking density and social behavior at feeding, and the availability of clean water.

The fôrmiljø influences feed intake, digestion, nutrient use, production performance, health and welfare, as well as feed efficiency and waste. Poor conditions can increase stress and competitive aggression, raise risk of contamination, spoilage or mycotoxins, and reduce productivity.

Practices are species-specific; in dairy and beef cattle, pig, poultry, and small ruminants, the design of feeding areas aims to provide equal access, minimize spoilage, and ensure safety. Regular assessment of feed handling, storage, and hygiene, as well as alignment with welfare and biosecurity guidelines, are common management themes.
