It typically shows the size, shape, depth, and spacing of foundations, as well as any required anchors, bolts, or embedded plates.

A fundamentplan usually includes grid lines, axis references, and dimensions for excavation and construction tolerances. It may include notes on soil bearing capacity, frost depth, drainage, waterproofing, and geotechnical considerations. Details for reinforcement in footings and walls, concrete grades, and special features such as frost protection or radon barriers are commonly included. Depending on the project, additional information may cover slabs on grade, crawl spaces, or basements and the treatment of penetrations for utilities.

The fundamentplan is typically prepared by a structural engineer and is used by architects, contractors, and builders to guide excavation, formwork, reinforcement placement, and concrete pouring. It must comply with applicable building codes and standards and is coordinated with other drawings such as site plans, architectural plans, and services plans.
