Frågebaserade describes methods, processes or working forms that take questions as their core element. The term is used primarily in education, research and user-centered design to emphasize that knowledge and insights are generated mainly through questioning rather than by instruction or passive memorization.

In education and teaching, frågebaserade approaches are common in frågebaserad undervisning or frågebaserat lärande. The focus is on the learner’s questions, inquiry-based work and critical thinking. The teacher acts as a facilitator, posing open or guiding questions, supporting hypothesis testing and an iterative workflow. This can occur through project work, problem solving or discussions where the aim is for learners to articulate what they want to investigate and how they will demonstrate understanding.

In research and assessment, frågebaserade intervjuer or frågebaserad bedömning are used to elicit information and gauge experiences or competencies. The structure can be fully or partially semi-structured; the interviewer follows a set of questions but may ask follow-ups based on respondents’ answers. Question-based methods are also used in qualitative analysis and user studies to map needs and experiences.

Beyond academia, frågebaserade methods appear in design and development, where questions help uncover user needs and requirements in user-centered design and requirements gathering.

Pros of frågebaserade approaches include increased participation, deeper understanding and alignment between learning goals and assessment. Limitations include the risk of biased questions, the need for skilled facilitation and the potential to be time-consuming.

The term is common in Swedish educational and research literature and is related to concepts such as frågebaserat lärande and inquiry-based learning in English contexts.
