Frakturella is a term used in fracture mechanics to describe a characteristic microcrack pattern observed in some brittle materials as they approach failure. The term functions descriptively and is not part of a fixed taxonomic classification in all standards, appearing mainly in analytical discussions of crack propagation.

Typically, frakturella patterns originate at a stress concentrator and develop a network of cracks that radiate outward with successive branching. The resulting morphology resembles spokes or a dendritic tree and is influenced by microstructural heterogeneity, residual stresses, loading rate, and temperature. The pattern is commonly reported in glasses, ceramics, ceramic coatings, and thin films subjected to rapid or complex loading.

Detection and analysis rely on high-resolution imaging and nondestructive techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, X-ray computed tomography, and acoustic emission monitoring. Quantitative descriptors include crack length distribution, branching density, and approximate fractal dimension, which researchers use as proxies for material toughness and damage accumulation.

Origin of the term: frakturella was proposed in theoretical fracture studies in the early 2010s and later used in experimental work to denote this persistent crack network. The name combines the root fracture with a diminutive suffix, signaling a small-scale or representative pattern of cracking.
