Formfyldlukmaskiner, or form-fill-seal (FFS) machines, are packaging systems that form bags or pouches from a continuous roll or web of film, fill the packages with product, seal the bags, and then separate them. They are widely used in the food industry as well as for non-food products such as detergents, chemicals and cosmetics.

Operation typically involves unwinding packaging film, shaping it into a pouch or tube, and creating seals to form a closed package. In vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machines, the film forms into a tube and a vertical seal runs along the length while a filling system deposits the product into the formed cavity; a horizontal seal creates the bottom of the pouch, and the bag is cut from the web. Horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) machines work with a horizontal film and form pouches by sealing along the sides and top/bottom as needed. Variants include three-side seal, gusseted bags, and stand-up pouches, depending on the product and package design.

Filling systems in FFS machines vary: powders and granules often use auger or volumetric fillers, while liquids may use piston or pump-based systems. Packaging films are typically multilayer laminates or barrier films made from combinations of PET, polypropylene, polyethylene and aluminum, chosen for strength, barrier properties and sealability.

Advantages of formfyldlukmaskiner include high production speeds, efficient material use, strong seal integrity, and flexibility to handle a range of products. Limitations include high initial investment, cost and time for changeovers between formats, and the need for compatible films and maintenance.
