Fejlrouting is a class of routing techniques that emphasize fault awareness and reliability in data networks. The term combines "fejl" (error) with routing, and its usage is not standardized across disciplines.

In practice, fejlrouting systems monitor link quality and error rates, maintain multiple potential routes, and select paths that minimize the probability of data loss or delay. By incorporating error metrics such as packet loss, latency, and link stability, these approaches aim to choose routes with higher expected reliability.

Common approaches include proactive monitoring (heartbeats, probes) and reactive rerouting when failures or degraded performance are detected. Some implementations use redundancy and multipath routing to improve resilience, while others optimize for rapid convergence to avoid long periods of suboptimal routing.

Algorithms in fejlrouting often assign reliability weights to links and use these weights in shortest-path calculations, or apply probabilistic and fault-tolerant routing schemes that prefer stable routes under changing conditions. The methods may be integrated with quality of service and congestion control to balance reliability with efficiency.

Applications span data centers, wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks, and distributed systems where failures are expected or timely delivery is critical. Evaluation typically focuses on end-to-end delivery ratio, latency, routing overhead, convergence time, and robustness to correlated failures. Trade-offs include additional signaling and computation versus improved reliability.
