fasedraden

Fasedraden are the three insulated conductors that carry the alternating currents in a three-phase electrical system. They are the live wires designated as L1, L2 and L3 and are used to deliver power to three-phase equipment, such as motors and heavy machinery. In many installations, a neutral and protective earth may accompany the fasedraden, but the three fasedraden themselves form the core of the three-phase supply.

Fasedraden are typically part of multi-core cables or installed as individual conductors with durable insulation. The construction may vary from flexible single-core cables to rigid multi-core assemblies, with insulation made of plastics or other materials chosen for voltage and environmental conditions. The phase conductors are color-coded to indicate their role: commonly brown (L1), black (L2) and gray (L3). Neutral (N) is often blue and protective earth (PE) is green-yellow, although color codes can differ by country and standard.

In Europe, a common three-phase system provides about 400 volts between any two phase conductors and about 230 volts between a phase conductor and neutral, with a supply frequency of 50 Hz. Fasedraden enable efficient power distribution for high-demand loads; three-phase systems allow smaller conductors to carry more power and smooth torque in motors compared with single-phase systems.

Safety and standards: fasedraden carry high voltage and must be installed and maintained according to national electrical codes. Proper insulation, secure connections, correct grouping, and protection against short circuits and environmental exposure are essential. Work should be performed by qualified personnel, with the system de-energized and tested before any maintenance.
