ewangelicie

Ewangelicie is a Polish term that may be encountered in two related, but distinct, senses. In everyday usage, the standard plural for adherents of evangelical Protestantism is ewangelicy, referring to people who belong to or identify with evangelical churches within Protestant Christianity. The form ewangelicie is less common and can appear as an archaic or regional variant. A second sense of ewangelicie is more literal: it can denote the gospels themselves, the four books of the New Testament that tell the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; in that use, the correct Polish word is ewangelie.

Etymologically, both senses derive from the term evangelium (gospel). Evangelicalism as a movement emphasizes the authority of the Bible, the need for personal conversion, and the importance of preaching and mission. Historically, it grew out of the Protestant Reformation and diversified into various denominations, including Lutheran, Reformed, Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal groups, among others.

In the Polish context, ewangelici (evangelicals) constitute a minority within the broader Christian landscape. The evangelical tradition in Poland includes historic Lutheran and Reformed communities as well as more recent evangelical and charismatic churches. Evangelical churches in Poland participate in ecumenical dialogue and cooperative activities with other Christian groups, and they engage in education, charity, and social outreach through church networks and affiliated organizations.
