The term eugenicist is sometimes used interchangeably with genetic determinist, although the two terms have distinct connotations. Genetic determinism refers to the idea that an individual's traits and behaviors are determined solely by their genetic makeup, while eugenics is more focused on the societal implications of genetics and the need to control the reproduction of individuals deemed undesirable.

Critics of eugenics argue that it is based on a flawed understanding of genetics and that it has been used to justify discriminatory and inhumane practices. The most notable example of this is the Nazi regime's use of forced sterilization and other eugenic practices to justify the extermination of Jews, Romani people, and others deemed undesirable. As a result, eugenics has been widely discredited and is no longer a widely accepted or advocated practice in most countries.
