ermforallweek is an online community initiative that encourages creative content sharing on a weekly basis. The project was launched in September 2018 by a group of independent content creators on the social media platform Reddit, where users discovered a growing demand for a structured but flexible framework for weekly collaboration. Every Monday, participants post a short prompt, artwork, or short film that others can build upon within the same week. The format promotes rapid iteration, community feedback, and skill exchanges among artists, writers, animators, and programmers.

The term “ermforallweek” originated from a humorous misunderstanding of the abbreviation “ERF” (Everyone’s Real Funny) combined with the phrase “for all week.” The phrase quickly gained traction and was adopted as the brand name for the project. Governance of the initiative is decentralized; a rotating council of volunteers moderates the subreddit to ensure quality, diversity, and compliance with community guidelines.

ermforallweek has grown steadily. By 2021 the community comprised over 30,000 members across multiple platforms, including Discord and Twitter, where users share additional resources such as tutorials, feedback threads, and collaborative prompts. The initiative is often highlighted in discussions of creative incubation, with educators noting its effectiveness as a low-barrier model for peer learning. Several blogs and podcasts have featured interviews with prominent members, including those who have used the exposure gained through the initiative to secure freelance opportunities or to launch independent projects.

In addition to the main weekly challenge, the community hosts occasional theme-based events, such as “Sci‑Fi Week,” “Fantasy Week,” and “Genre Mashup Week.” The cumulative output of the project includes thousands of short pieces of art, micro-fiction, music tracks, and game prototypes, many of which are publicly licensed for reuse.
