Energipris is the price assigned to energy, typically electricity, in wholesale and retail markets. In many Nordic and Northern European contexts the term refers to the wholesale price that is determined in the day-ahead electricity market and to the price that may be passed through to consumers through retail contracts. The concept covers the price level for each hour of the next day and is often published as an hourly rate.

In the Nordic region, the wholesale energipris is mainly established in the day-ahead market operated by Nord Pool. Here electricity for each hour is bid and cleared across participating countries, resulting in an hourly spot price. There is also a balancing market that handles deviations from the planned production and consumption. The resulting prices reflect cross-border transmission capacity, regional supply and demand, and price coupling with neighboring markets. Prices can vary significantly from hour to hour and may even become negative under certain conditions.

Several factors influence energipris. Generation mix and capacity, especially hydropower reserves, wind and solar output, and the availability of thermal plants, are key. Fuel costs, carbon prices, and wholesale gas prices affect the marginal cost of production. Weather patterns, hydro reservoir levels, and transmission constraints shape supply and price dynamics. Price volatility is typical, and consumers are exposed to fluctuations unless they have fixed-rate contracts or hedging arrangements.

Regulation and market design aim to promote transparency and competition, while providing mechanisms for price discovery, consumer protection, and cross-border integration.
