Endometriosis is a gynecological condition characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. This tissue, which is similar to the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus, can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other pelvic structures. The exact cause of endometriosis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, hormonal, and immune factors.

The symptoms of endometriosis can vary widely among individuals. Common symptoms include pelvic pain, particularly during menstruation, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), dyspareunia (painful intercourse), and infertility. These may include pain management with medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), hormonal therapy, or surgical interventions like laparoscopy. In some cases, fertility treatments may be recommended to address infertility related to endometriosis.

Research is ongoing to better understand the underlying mechanisms of endometriosis and to develop more effective treatments. Early diagnosis and appropriate management can significantly improve the outcomes for individuals with endometriosis.
