Endofspan is not a standard term with a single, formal definition. Because “end” and “span” appear in several domains, the exact meaning of endofspan depends on context.

In computing and text processing, endOfSpan (often written in camelCase or as end_of_span) is commonly used as the name of a function or method. A typical endOfSpan function takes a sequence, a start position, and a span specification (such as a length or an explicit end index) and returns the exclusive end index of the span. When encountered informally, endofspan may be used only as a shorthand label in specific discussions, but precise language (such as “the span generated by S”) is preferred.
