Endodontia is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on the study and treatment of the dental pulp, the soft tissue inside a tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. This field is commonly associated with root canal therapy, a procedure designed to treat infections and diseases affecting the pulp. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma, it can cause severe pain and lead to tooth loss if left untreated.

Endodontists, dentists who specialize in endodontia, use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and manage conditions of the dental pulp. Diagnosis often involves clinical examination, radiographic imaging (X-rays), and sometimes pulp vitality tests.
