Ducklings are the young of ducks. They are typically precocial, meaning they hatch with down and are capable of movement, can feed themselves, and often swim soon after birth. The incubation period for duck eggs varies by species but is commonly about 28 days for many dabbling ducks. After hatching, ducklings rely on a parent for warmth, protection, and guidance.

Following hatching, ducklings are usually guided by the mother and form a brood that stays close together as it travels. They grow quickly, shedding their down and developing juvenile plumage within a few weeks. In many species, males and females acquire distinct adult plumage after their first year. Ducklings are vulnerable to predators, and parental care greatly improves their survival during the early weeks.

Diet for ducklings consists mainly of small invertebrates, insect larvae, and aquatic plants. They forage in shallow water and along the shore, often following the mother in a single file while learning where to find food. As they grow, their diet shifts to include more plant material.

Ducklings inhabit a range of wetland habitats, including freshwater ponds, lakes, marshes, rivers, and urban water bodies. They occur worldwide, with species adapted to a broad range of climates. Predators such as birds of prey, mammals, and environmental threats like habitat loss and water pollution can impact their survival.

Domesticated ducks also produce ducklings, which are raised for eggs, meat, or companionship. Proper care includes safe brood housing, clean water, and a suitable diet to support healthy growth.
