drukuitputting

Drukuitputting is a term used in hydrogeology, reservoir engineering and fluid-network management to describe the decrease of pressure in a confined or semi-confined reservoir or distribution system as a result of fluid withdrawal. The word combines druk (pressure) and uitputting (depletion or drawing out). It refers to the process by which extraction lowers the available pressure, which can limit deliverability, alter flow paths and affect system performance.

In groundwater management, drukuitputting appears as drawdown around pumping wells, lowering the hydraulic head. Prolonged pressure decline can reduce aquifer yield, change water quality, and in some cases cause subsidence or land surface effects. In oil and gas reservoirs, pressure decline diminishes well productivity and sweep efficiency; artificial means such as waterflooding or gas reinjection are often used to help maintain pressure and recovery. In district heating, gas distribution or other fluid networks, pressure drops during high demand are a practical form of drukuitputting and require pressure management to avoid outages.

Measurement and modelling typically involve monitoring pressure at wells or network nodes, generating drawdown curves, and applying reservoir or network models (for example, Theis-type solutions or finite-difference simulations) to predict pressure change over time and space. Management strategies focus on sustainable yield or pressure maintenance, such as reinjection, artificial recharge, reducing peak demand, or adjusting production schedules and network operation to minimize adverse pressure effects.
