Drenager is a term used in civil engineering and agriculture to denote a drainage approach or device designed to remove excess water from soil or surfaces. In technical usage, it can refer to both the process of draining and to the equipment installed to achieve drainage. The term is not universally standardized and may describe a family of related practices rather than a single standardized system.

The term appears as a blended form of drainage terminology and is used variably in regional manuals, with no single official definition.

A typical drenager system includes shallow trenches, a filtration layer, and a perforated outlet pipe installed toward a lower-lying drainage channel or pumping station. Water from surrounding soil seeps into the trench, enters the pipe, and flows to the outlet by gravity. Sub-surface drenagers use buried perforated pipes; surface variations involve channels or swales that intercept runoff.

Applications and design considerations: Drenagers are used to lower the water table in agricultural fields, improve soil structure for horticulture, stabilize soils at construction sites, and form components of urban stormwater management. Design depends on soil texture, rainfall, crop requirements, and outlet capacity; installation and maintenance require regular inspection of pipes and clearing of blockages.
