Drainboards are flat surfaces designed to drain and air-dry dishware after washing. They are typically placed beside a kitchen sink and serve to catch water and guide it back into the sink or into a drip tray. Drainboards can be built into a countertop or sink unit, or be freestanding accessories positioned on the counter.

Most drainboards are made from materials chosen for durability and ease of cleaning. Common options include stainless steel, which offers water resistance and longevity; plastics, which are lightweight and affordable; and wooden varieties such as bamboo or teak, which provide a natural look but require more maintenance to prevent water damage. Some drainboards feature a ribbed or grooved surface to elevate items and improve airflow, along with a raised edge or lip to contain splashes.

Design variations include integrated drainboards that are part of a sink or countertop, freestanding boards that sit next to the sink, and roll-up or collapsible formats for temporary or small-space use. In some kitchens, drainboards include a separate drip tray or a channel system that directs water back into the sink.

Maintenance typically involves washing the surface with mild detergent and water, drying after cleaning, and addressing any mold or warping on wooden models. Regular inspection for cracks or warping helps extend the life of the board. Drainboards are commonly used in domestic kitchens and can be found in a range of styles to suit different decor and space constraints.
